We are used to Uzbek singers using foreign music and changing the words of songs. However, there are also foreigners who use the works of Uzbek singers by infringing their copyrights. Boburbek Arapbaev, a young artist known for his song “Tamara” on social networks, also complains about foreign artists performing his song instead.
— I performed the song “Tamara” in February of this year. The lyrics of the song belong to Karakalpakstan creators Noker Meretov, and the music is by Jamshid Aimbetov. We shot a music video for the song in cooperation with music video maker Abbas Abdullayev. The clip was posted on YouTube on March 10 of this year. In seven months, it was viewed 28 million times. But recently, the number of artists who “own” the song has increased. For example, Aygun Agayeva from Azerbaijan performed the song in the Azeri language and uploaded it to the network along with the music video. His performance has been watched over 1 million times. But I was offended that he played it without asking permission. He does not want to remove it on the network under the pretext that “I re-polished the music”.
After that, a performer named Rustam Aliyev posted his performance on YouTube under the name “Devushka doza”. But he didn’t ask permission for it either.
There are famous singers in Kazakhstan named Yeldos Januzak and Beybaris Sadiq. They asked for permission to perform the song and bought the song for $1,500. I have no objection to their performance.
Recently, there have been many covers of the song “Tamara” on social networks. Especially, Azerbaijani and Turkish artists perform this song and post it on the network. People who have seen this are accusing me of plagiarism. But I bought the song from the poet and composer and performed it. The copyright of the song “Tamara” also belongs to Kamin, says Boburbek Arapbaev, a singer from Karakalpakstan.
The singer was born on November 12, 1994 in the Beruni district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In 2018, he began his career as a professional singer and presented the song “Soribiyim soorisi” to the public.
